Al Borde Del Despertar - Edge of Awakening Solo Museum Exhibit | Manuel Felguérez Abstract Art Museum, Zacatecas Mexico | December 2011 - March 2012

Edge of Awakening

Abstract art, as a universal pictorial, language gives artists the world over a series of possibilities and paths to express and verbalize, to invent and reinvent their own realities, through signs and expressions that know no boundaries. Within this global context, paintings by artists such as Nicola Parente could be considered contemporary Italian, North American, Mexican, or simply as paintings that belong to a worldwide current.

The Manuel Felguérez Abstract Art Museum, one of the few museums in the world that specializes in abstract art, is committed to exhibiting and showing abstract productions created both locally and internationally. For this reason we are proud to present on this occasion this exhibit by Italian-American artist Nicola Parente, titled Edge of Awakening, which includes 30 recently created mid-sized acrylic paintings.

Parente enjoys painting sequences that enable him to explore various ways of expressing not the same thing, but analogous things that are interrelated. With this new series “Edge of Awakening”, as can be seen in the titles of each painting, he speaks to us of moods, everyday situations, and visions that develop within the boundaries between sleep and awakening.

Nicola Parente, born in Mola di Bari, Italy and now living in Houston, Texas, has been mixing his rich Italian legacy with his intercultural experiences in his works of art for over two decades. It is in the United States and in Texas specifically, that he has harvested the most important fruits of his labor. He has held countless exhibits and received many awards and recognitions. His works of art can be found in important public and private institutions. At the same time he has been nourished by American esthetic experiences and is contributing to enriching the visual arts in Texas.

With this catalogue, and Nicola Parente’s presence at the Manuel Felguérez Abstract Art Museum, we welcome him to Mexico and thank him for the opportunity to share his works of art with the citizens of Zacateca and the members of the public visiting us from other regions of the country and the world.
